NYX Total Control Drop Foundation | Review

Hi everyone and welcome back to The Coveted Lifestyle!

I’d seen this foundation floating about Youtube and Instagram for a while back as it was released over in the US before making it over to us in the UK and put it on my list of foundations to try. I love NYX as a brand so decided, when I saw it in Boots, to buy it and try it out and see how it faired out.

You can get this foundation at Boots for £14 for only 13ml which is pricier than other drugstore foundations. My favourite L’oreal True Match is around £9.99 for 30ml so its around £5 more expensive with much less product. There is a large shade range with around 24 different shades which I liked as they had a few shades for paler skin which I am. I picked up the shade “Light Ivory”, which in the shop I thought was the correct shade but is actually the wrong colour for me at the minute, it’ll be better for in the winter time when I’m paler (paler than I am now). On the box it says that 2 drops is for a light coverage, 3 drops for a medium coverage and 4 drops for a full coverage.

Now for the wear test

So I put the NYX Angel Veil primer on for my primer on the day tested this. This primer smoothes out my skin but I don’t think it prolongs my makeup for a long time so that’s why I choose it as I wanted to see how long the foundation lasts without a good primer on.

I put 3 drops of the foundation on each cheek and my forehead. I definitely couldn’t just use 3 drops for my whole face as I feel it wouldn’t have been enough. I tried out 3 different ways to blend the foundation so I could find which one works the best. For me the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and the Mikasa Beauty Oval Brush blended it the best as I found a beauty blender sucked up the majority of the product so it didn’t blend into my skin well.

My first impression of this foundation after first applying is that it is very lightweight and it doesn’t make me feel like I have foundation on. 3 drops gave just the correct amount of coverage I wanted, it makes me look like I don’t have any foundation on.

4 Hours Wear

So after 4 hours it still looks as good as it did when I first applied it. It had slightly oxidised on my forehead but it wasn’t noticeable enough that you could see it had. It never lasted on my nose as it had worn off slightly but not many foundations do stay completely on my nose.

8 Hours Wear

I went for a run with this foundation on as I forgot to remove my makeup beforehand but after I’d ran 3K it still looked really good. It hadn’t completely slipped off my face with all the sweat. It really held up and still made my skin look amazing.

Verdict

I do have to give this foundation a bit more of a try and get a shade that matches me before properly deciding on my final review but the times I’ve used it I have liked the look of it on my skin and how it’s lasted. It’s very light weight on the skin which I like for everyday. Overall I think I’ll fall for this foundation after a few more tries.

I hope you’ve all enjoyed this post, what’s your favourite foundation so I can try out some new ones?
